The Fair continued to be held even in the period of 3-year natural calamities and during the 10-year Cultural Revolution. The annual transaction volume broke through USD 5 billion and the number of the purchasers reached 40,000 in all thus making the solid basic of the coming large tide of reform and opening-up.
In April if 1982, the 51st CECF shortened its duration from 30 days to 20 days. In the spring of 1983, at the 53rd session, it is the first time to exhibit at the CECF for foreign-funded enterprises. In the autumn of 1089, at the 66th session, it once more shortened its duration from 20 days to 15 days. And in the same year, the total transaction volume of the CECF broke through USD10 billion.
In 1993 and 1994, it made two major innovations in its traditional pattern of organizing trading delegations and exhibition booths according to the main categories of products, by adopting the principle (still is used today) that “the delegations are organized by the different provinces and municipalities, the exhibition sections are to be arranged by chamber of commerce, combined trading delegations with exhibition sections, the exhibits are to be displayed by the industries”, to meet the requirements of the reform in the foreign trade system, the fair carried out strategies of “market pluralism, winning by quality, invigorating trade with science and technology and a big economic cooperation & trade”. Both the purchasers and the turnover continued to grow with steady steps, even in the years of 1998 and 1999 when our foreign trade suffered the hard lash the impact brought about by the Asia financial Crisis, he purchasers and turnover didn't go down, in opposition, they created new records.
